A Rare Cause of Acute Appendicitis: Infestation of Enterobius Vermicularis

Acute appendicitis is the result of luminal obstruction of appendix. Although fecal impaction and lymphoid hyperplasia are the most common causes of the luminal obstruction, parasitic infections can also be the reason of luminal obstruction and can cause acute appendicitis. 35 year-old female patient applied with the complaints of abdominal pain and nausea, hospitalized with the presumptive diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Explorative laparatomy was performed. Operative findings were consistent with acute appendicitis and appendectomy was perfomed. The patient's postoperative course was unremarkable and discharged on postoperative 2nd day. The pathology was reported as acute appendicitis caused by infestation of Enterobius vermicularis. Herein, a case report of acute appendicitis caused by enterobius vermicularis is presented.

Akut appendisit, appendiks lümeninin tıkanması sonucu gelişmektedir. Fekal impaksiyon ve lenfoid hiperplazi lüminal obstrüksiyonun en sık görülen nedenleri olsa da; parazitik enfeksiyonlar da lüminal obstrüksiyona yol açarak akut appendisite yol açabilmektedir.
35 yaşında kadın hasta karın ağrısı ve bulantı şikayetleri ile başvurmuş olup, akut appendisit ön tanısı ile interne edilmiştir. Eksploratif laparatomi yapılmıştır. Operatif bulgular akut appendisit ile uyumlu olarak bulunmuş ve appendektomi yapılmıştır. Hastanın postoperatif dönemi komplikasyonsuz olup, hasta postoperatif 2. günde taburcu edilmiştir. Patoloji sonucu; Enterobius Vermiularis enfestasyonu kaynaklı akut appendisit olarak raporlanmıştır. Bu olgu sunumunda, Enterobius vermicularis kaynaklı akut appendisit vakası sunulmaktadır.
